After Dark
The first time I read After Dark back in the spring, I didn’t like it. I hated how Murakami never revealed what happened to the Chinese girl (Guo Dongli) or Shirakawa. I think the problem was that I rushed through the book and expected a traditional plot, which any Murakami reader knows is not the proper approach to his work.
Tonight on my plane ride I decided to reread this novel, and I...

Yess my brother asked me for a Kinokuniya giftcard for Christmas… now I have an excuse to go back to take more pictures tomorrow :D
C-41 film is such a pain… but I think some of the color neg. scans make it worth it. I have half a roll of Kodak Gold 100 in my camera now and a roll of HP5+ on the side pouch.. will try to go through at least 30 frames tomorrow.

..eh they’re mostly food pictures though.. some other ones I need to redo because Costco’s machine sucks at developing (better than anywhere else though). Also have a HP5+ roll to develop, dry, and scan tonight and a few from a Fuji Superia that will be up soon. Big delays because I had to do negative scans instead of print scans thanks again to Costco.

Tonight I went through maddoc2003jp’s entire photostream (not each photo individually, but all 78 pages and I favorite-d a bunch). I found his 35mm BW photos in the city, with some sort of feeling of “traveling” to be the most beautiful. The dark ones with nice film grain and bokeh are the best. I think he was the reason I decided to get really into BW film and hang out in Little...

“It may be said that, in some sense, we create our own reality through the way we perceive the external world, and, like anything that is created or constructed it can collapse. Does this mean anything to you? You think you are happily married, and then you discover that you aren’t. your whole perception of the outside world, as it pertains to you, jut suddenly collapses. This is...

“He nearly called you again last night. Can you imagine that, after all this time? He can. He imagines calling you or running into you by chance. Depending on the weather, he imagines you in one of those cotton dresses of yours with flowers on it or in faded blue jeans and a thick woolen button up cardigan over a checked shirt, drinking coffee from a mug, looking through your tortoiseshell...

Janáček's Sinfonietta
I actually got around to listening to this. It’s great, and surprisingly similar to Joe Hisaishi’s stuff. I’m usually not into classical music (too young maybe?) but this is a good starting point perhaps.

“As I said before, you are a very cautious person. You’re practical and patient, not overconfident. But no matter how careful a person might be, once your concentration slips, you will definitely make one or two mistakes. Loneliness becomes an acid that eats away at you.”
“I don’t think I’m lonely,” Aomame declared. She said this half to Tamaru, and half...
