Be prepared and be honest
– John Wooden
wisdom
My grandpa: So I gave them (homeless people) $20 each and I said, 'look, we're trying to run a business over here and people don't feel safe if there's people who are always hanging around in the parking lot. So could you please just take this, buy some dinner, and go somewhere else from now on?' Because these people think, 'hey, this guy is a big shot, he's the owner of the building, but he's being kind to me.' And so they listen; none of them ever come back now. But actually, they probably just went to the liquor store to buy a couple of beers. (laugh)
Me: haha! wouldn't it be a good idea to just buy them some food, then?
My grandpa: I don't have time to buy them food! But if they don't use the money to buy food, then it will weigh on their consciouses.
...I don't know how much of this you'll relate to, but I actually have a very simple view on life. If you live properly and are kind to everyone around you and do what you need to do, then you won't have to worry about anything. The only people who are worrying all the time are the people who try to take advantage of others and go crazy over money, and worrying about people coming after them or coming for revenge...
Everybody has dignity, whether they're a big shot or a street-walker...yeah, even these people feel important! So you have to be kind to everyone; don't be belligerent.
